Electrolysis is the only
method recognized by the FDA for PERMANENT hair removal. (Did you know the F.D.A. no longer allows laser to market itself as permanent hair removal?)
Electrolysis is safe and effective on all colors and types of skin and hair. Electrolysis will even help in clearing your skin and will dramatically diminish the appearance of ingrown hairs. At South Shore Center for Electrolysis we use only sterile disposable needles.
Electrolysis can be used in most parts of the body, including:
- Eyebrows (shaping and clearing unibrows)
- Upper and Lower Lip
- Chin and Neck
- Neck Line/Hair Line
- Ears and Nose
- Breast and Chest
- Arms and Legs, fingers and toes
- Bikini Line
- Back, including lower back
How does Electrolysis work?
We insert a minute needle alongside the hair follicle (this skin is not punctured), the probe goes into the pore where the hair is emerging from. We then give very quick bursts of heat directly into the hair papilla (hair papilla is what makes the hair grow) eventually cauterizing it so no hairs will ever grow from that same hair follicle again.
How many treatments will I need?
To permanently remove your unwanted hair through Electrolysis you will need a series of treatments. The length and frequency of the treatment will depend of the amount and strength of the hairs to be treated. The average person sees good results in 2 months and great results in 6 months. (At this phase you should be going for treatments less often).
Is Electrolysis better than laser?
Electrolysis is the only method recognized by the FDA for permanent hair removal. The FDA labels laser as hair reduction only. Laser tries to destroy the hair follicles with heat. Since hair is a poor (heat) conductor, only a minimum amount of heat reaches the hair follicle below the skin. With laser you have to shave the area prior to the treatment (which is acceptable on some parts of your body but totally unacceptable to ask a girl/woman to shave her face).
Is Electrolysis painful?
Most people compare it to tweezing. Some people are more sensitive than others and some areas more sensitive than others. The higher the heat you can tolerate, the better results you will have, but you must be comfortable with the treatments because you will have to go back.
